At the heart of the programme is the Level 1 Certificate in Engineering, an entry-level qualification designed to help adults build confidence, develop core practical skills and gain the foundational knowledge required to progress into technical roles or further study.
This course is ideal for individuals who are new to engineering, returning to learning, or looking to transition into the sector. It also supports employers seeking to develop staff with foundation-level engineering skills as a first step into technical roles.
Learners completing the programme will be able to progress onto Level 2 engineering courses, apprenticeships, or entry-level roles, creating a clear and structured pathway into long-term careers in manufacturing and engineering.
Alongside the engineering pathway, WCG will also deliver specialist Electric and Hybrid Vehicle training, supporting automotive technicians and garages to keep pace with the transition to electric vehicles.
This includes:
- Level 2 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance
- Level 3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement
These courses will support technicians already working in garages and workshops to gain the skills needed to safely maintain and repair electric and hybrid vehicles.
The programme forms part of Warwickshire County Council’s Adult Skills Fund Pathway to Devolution pilot, designed to support residents to gain skills, confidence and qualifications that lead to meaningful employment or progression into further training.
Sara-Jane Watkins, CEO and Principal of WCG, said: “This programme is an important opportunity to support adults in Warwickshire to take their first step into technical careers.
“By introducing a Level 1 entry pathway, we are ensuring that individuals who may not yet be ready for higher-level training can build the confidence, skills and experience needed to progress into employment or further study.
“Manufacturing and automotive engineering remain vital to our regional economy, and by working closely with Warwickshire County Council and local employers, we are creating accessible pathways that support both individuals and businesses to develop the skills needed for the future.”
The programme will be delivered across WCG campuses at Warwick Trident College and Rugby College, with flexible delivery designed to support both unemployed learners and those already in work.
Fully funded places are available for eligible adults aged 19+ who live or work in Warwickshire.
Individuals interested in starting a career in engineering and employers wishing to develop staff or upskill their workforce in EV technologies are encouraged to get in touch.
