After building strong demand in the US, Glen is now in advanced talks with a European supplier since receiving marketing advice from Business Ready, a fully-funded mentoring service delivered by the University of Warwick Science Park on behalf of Warwickshire County Council.
Glen, who lives in Water Orton and operates a Quantum Trainers showroom in Wootton Wawen, has worked in the fitness sector for more than 40 years. Earlier in his career, he specialised in gym design and kitting out gyms with training machines and repeatedly saw what he believed was a clear gap in the market for both commercial and home gym spaces.
He said: “For years I watched gyms fill up with single-purpose machines that took up space and limited what people could actually do. I kept thinking there had to be a smarter solution that worked for complete beginners and serious athletes alike.
“I designed the Quantum Free Trainer, which bridges the gap in the market for both commercial gyms and home users.
“After the US-based community of YouTube gym equipment reviewers started highlighting the machine to their audience over there, the Quantum Free Trainer now has a foothold in the US market.
“But I felt I needed further advice around how best to market it in the UK and Europe before I spent lots of money trying to do it. I looked into what options were out there, and that’s when I found Business Ready.”
Business Ready offers a blend of mentoring, direct workshops, and classroom-style presentations depending on the needs of a particular company or individual.
When Glen started working with Business Ready, he was signed up to a series of workshops focused on strengthening marketing plans, improving search engine optimisation for his website, and making the business more attractive to potential investors.
Glen added: “Running a business on your own can feel isolating at times. Being in a room with other ambitious business owners and being able to bounce ideas around was invaluable.
“The workshops helped me step back and look at Quantum Trainers with fresh eyes. I’ve tightened up my marketing, improved the visibility of my website, and gained clarity around how to position the product for different markets. That’s given me the confidence to have serious conversations with suppliers in Europe.”
Following the support, Glen is now in advanced discussions with a supplier to distribute the Quantum Free Trainer into the European market and believes the product is well placed to gain momentum beyond the US.
Mark Wisniewski, business adviser at Business Ready, said: “Working with Quantum Trainers and Glen has been a real pleasure. Glen has an exceptional understanding of his customers and the problems they face, and that insight is clear in the design of the Quantum Free Trainer.
“Through Business Ready, our support has focused on strengthening the commercial and digital foundations of the business. What’s particularly impressive is how Glen has navigated a period of significant uncertainty, including shifting political conditions and the impact of US tariffs, all while continuing to build momentum in the US and prepare confidently for European expansion.
“Seeing Quantum Trainers move from strong product-market fit into tangible commercial success is exactly what we aim to support as business advisers, and it’s been extremely rewarding to be part of that journey.”
Mark Ryder, Executive Director for Communities at Warwickshire County Council, said: “The support from Business Ready is tailored to each business and Glen at Quantum Trainers has been able to utilise this to help his growth strategy as he looks to enter new markets with his product.
“As a sole business owner Glen is responsible for all elements of the business, the dedicated support from the Business Ready programme allowed him to access additional advice and networking opportunities enabling him to speak with other business owners facing similar challenges to share advice and support.”
