Resonate Festival is back for Coventry and Warwickshire

The first part of University of Warwick’s Resonate programme has been announced for 2023 – and includes everything from inclusive cycling through to AI comedy!

Resonate is a programme of inspiring and interactive events that brings to life the work of the University and its staff for people right across Coventry and Warwickshire. It sees events take place in the local community and also brings people onto the University of Warwick campus.

It was a huge success during 2022 and organisers are aiming to build on that over the coming year with a broad selection of events.

Cycle Assist

The first major event is Cycle Assist – in partnership with Sustrans – which will be exploring the disability cycling movement on Saturday, February 4 from 9.30am until 4.30pm.

There will be a chance to hear inspiring talks and to make the most of a free lunch as well as an opportunity to take part in a ride from the University campus to Kenilworth Greenway, with assistive and adapted cycles available to use provided by Midland Mencap.

There are also opportunities to learn to cycle – again using the assistive and adapted cycles – and to drop in a bicycle to Dr Bike for a free health-check. There is also a chance to express views on disability cycling through the medium of art.

The event will see discussions around accessibility in south Coventry for cycling and a talk and discussion with Kate Ball, of Wheels for Wellbeing, on the simple changes to make cycling more accessible.

Booking is required for most elements of the day and can be done via www.resonatefestival.co.uk

Science on the Hill

Science on the Hill follows quickly after on Tuesday, February 7, at 6.30pm at the recently opened Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB) and will look at the theme of Metals in Biology and will hear from Professor Peter Sadler, Professor Joanna Collingwood and Dr Robert Dalman.

Resonate Lates

The first two Resonate Lates events will take place at 1 Mill St in Leamington on Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, March 8, both starting at 6.30pm with refreshments available from 6pm. Audiences will hear about how AI can be used in medicine, research, uncovering hidden biases and even some AI comedy!

There will be two further lectures in the David Bowie series in March and July, as well as activities – including another Resonate Lates event – during British Science Week from March 10 to March 19.

Kerry Baker, of the University of Warwick, said: “We are delighted to announce the first events of the Resonate programme for Spring 2023, especially after such great attendance and feedback over the past 12 months.

“The aim of the Resonate is to share, inspire and intrigue communities, both on and off campus, by creating a variety of opportunities for people to meet, talk and participate. on campus and across the Coventry and Warwickshire region.

“We’re looking forward to getting our Spring events started and hope to see lots of people from the local area coming along to explore, enjoy and entertain!”
