National Express Coventry has marked a long-serving colleague’s 60th birthday by naming a brand-new fully electric bus after him.

Graham Livesey is the Engineering Manager for National Express Coventry and recently turned 60. The surprise bus dedication was unveiled to him this week to celebrate his birthday milestone and his many years of dedicated service to the company.

The bus company previously launched a competition to mark International Men’s Day, inviting people to nominate local men and boys with the aim of honouring those who’ve been role models and made a difference to Coventry. They are to be named on some of the 176 electric buses that National Express Coventry is delivering as part of the city’s mission to be the first all-electric bus city in the UK by 2025.

Graham, from West Bromwich, has worked for National Express for over 44 years, starting his career as an engineering apprentice in 1979. During his time with the company, he’s worked at a number of garages across the West Midlands, including Walsall, West Bromwich, Acocks Green, and the former Lea Hall garage, before becoming the Engineering Manager at the Coventry garage near Pool Meadow bus station.

Having received multiple nominations to have a bus named after him, Graham said:

"I am truly humbled and grateful to National Express Coventry for this recognition. It was completely unexpected and I would like to thank everyone who nominated me.

“I’m really proud of what we have achieved over the years and after working for the company the amount of time I have, it’s really something special to see your name on the side of a bus.”

Over the years Graham has built strong relationships with colleagues from across the business, and many have described him as friendly, approachable and understanding.

David Bradford, Managing Director of National Express Coventry, said:

"Graham is an exceptional colleague who has made an immense contribution to the company over the last 44 years and we all wish him a very happy 60th birthday.

“His unwavering commitment, dedication and professionalism have been an inspiration to us all. Naming a bus after him is a fitting tribute to his years of service and a testament to the impact he has had on our business.”

The bus named after Graham is now out in service and customers are encouraged to look out for it on their travels.
