Popular Lambing and Animals Weekend returns to Moreton Morrell College with a new flock

A new flock of sheep is settling in at Moreton Morrell College as it prepares for its popular springtime lambing event.

The specialist agricultural college, which is part of college group WCG (Warwickshire College Group), will be hosting its annual Lambing and Animals Weekend on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April.

The new flock of 231 ewes are set to be the stars of the spring show as the fun-filled family weekend returns to WCG’s Nethermorton Farm.

It follows a great year in 2023 with more than 3,500 people visiting the farm during the two-day event.

Visitors will be able to see the flock which features a mixture of commercial and breeding ewes from Leicestershire and Norfolk, with farm manager Daniel Hale and his team on hand to help people meet the lambs and learn more about animal care, lambing and life working on a farm.

Friends and families can explore the 650-acre farm and the college is also holding tours of the Animal Centre, where people can meet meerkats, raccoon dogs, coatis and more.

The event also sees the return of a local farmer’s market which was hugely popular when it debuted at last year’s event.

This year’s farmer’s market continues to expand, showcasing high quality produce and crafts of businesses from across the local area.

All proceeds from the Lambing and Animals Weekend are invested into the college and support with curriculum delivery at Moreton Morrell College.

Daniel Hale, farm manager at Nethermorton Farm, said “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to Nethermorton Farm and are excited to introduce our new flock of sheep to the public.

“Our Lambing and Animals Weekend has become a staple in our college and local community’s calendars as a fantastic opportunity for people to visit the farm, explore the facilities, meet our newborn lambs and learn about modern day farming.

“Following its popularity, we have expanded the farmer’s market and are looking forward to showcasing even more local businesses and their excellent produce and crafts.

“The weekend has something for everyone to enjoy.”

On both days, the event runs from 10:30am to 4pm, with last entry at 3pm.

Advanced ticket prices for each day starts from £7 per adult and £4 per child. Concession rates are priced at £5, with family tickets of two adults and two children available at £18. For more information on the event and to book tickets visit: https://wcg.ac.uk/lambing
