Coventry and Warwickshire business leaders join the board of Business Beats Cancer

Two businesspeople in Coventry and Warwickshire are backing a Cancer Research initiative to get more firms to commit to support the funding of life-saving research.

Prominent Chamber members Paul Scanlon, founder and CEO of multi-award-winning Coventry-based digital media agency The Herd, and Will Green, managing director of Coventry’s leading estate agents Shortland Horne, have both joined the Business Beats Cancer board, bringing with them a wealth of business experience, community passion and deep-rooted connections across the region.

Coventry and Warwickshire business leaders join the board of Business Beats Cancer

Business Beats Cancer Coventry & Warwickshire is part of a growing national network of boards established by Cancer Research UK, the world's largest independent cancer research organisation.

Each board brings together business leaders to organise and host an exciting annual event, raising vital funds to support life-changing cancer research. The inaugural gala dinner for the Coventry & Warwickshire board is set to take place in June 2027.

Paul said: "Cancer touches every community, every family, and every business. At The Herd, we believe that businesses have both the power and the responsibility to give back to the communities they serve.

“Joining the Business Beats Cancer board felt like a natural step. It's an opportunity to use our network, our energy and our platform to help fund research that genuinely saves lives. We're incredibly proud to be part of this."

Will added: “Shortland Horne has been part of the fabric of Coventry for many decades. Being invited to join the Business Beats Cancer board is something I'm deeply honoured by. Cancer Research UK does extraordinary work, and we're committed to helping this board grow its reach, its impact, and its fundraising right here in Coventry and Warwickshire."

Ryan Goode, Cancer Research UK's fundraising spokesperson for Coventry and Warwickshire, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to see Business Beats Cancer launching in Coventry & Warwickshire and am looking forward to working alongside such a passionate and dedicated board.

“Every member of the board has been affected by cancer, either personally or through someone close to them. Their shared experiences have brought them together with one common goal – to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK's life-saving research and help create a future where more people survive cancer.

“It's fantastic to have both Will and Paul involved, and I'm excited to connect with many more businesses from across the region over the coming year as we build towards our inaugural gala dinner in June 2027.

“Every day, we see the impact of research made possible through the generosity of our supporters. New clinical trials are opening, pioneering treatments are being developed, and more lives are being saved because of the progress being made.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Business Beats Cancer board for their commitment and ambition. We encourage any business or individual who would like to support this exciting initiative to get in touch and be part of making a real difference for people affected by cancer."

As active members of the Chamber, Paul and Will are calling on fellow members to consider how they can get involved, whether by joining the board, attending the inaugural gala dinner, donating an auction or raffle prize or simply lending their support to the cause.
