Chamber leaders ‘blown away’ by new project and urge other businesses to pledge support

Two of Coventry and Warwickshire’s most senior business leaders have been given a glimpse of how a new development for supported living will help to transform the lives of people in the region.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s CEO Corin Crane and its president Sandra Godley OBE were shown behind the scenes at Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind’s Berry Mews development in Foleshill.

And after hearing about the lifechanging effect it will have on people who need ongoing support for their mental health, they are both urging other businesspeople in the region to find out more and to support the project where they can.

Berry Mews is a £2.8 million living accommodation on the site of the former Livingstone Baths in the city and will consist of 26 supported studios with ensuites, including two units adapted for people with physical disabilities.

It will also include communal living spaces, laundry rooms and outdoor space. The first residents are expected to move in this summer.

Occupants will primarily be single adults who need mental health support and are expected to stay for approximately two years before moving on to more independent living.

There will be support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week from Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind’s team.

Local and national businesses have already shown incredible support to the project – through cash donations, pro-bono services or products or heavily discounted goods. Supporters include Deeley Group, Amazon, NFU, Dental Elite, Ballantine Recruitment and Dreams.

Firms also have the option of sponsoring a room for £3,500 which will help the CWW Mind team to kit them out for residents.

Sandra said: “When you see a new project like this and the impact it is going to have, it actually makes you quite emotional.

“This isn’t just a building and they are not just rooms, they will be homes for people who need support to give them a better quality of life and help them to recover.

“I know a lot is asked of businesses at the moment – in difficult times – but I would urge them to find out more about this development and see where they can help.”

Corin added: “I often talk about a Chamber as not being here just to make individual businesses richer, we have a massive part to play in our local community too.

“I am blown away on an almost daily basis by the great things happening in our region and this is such a brilliant example of that. You get an immediate feeling of how this is going to change lives and it’s great to see how CWW Mind works with local and national businesses in partnership.

“So, for us as a Chamber, we’d just like companies to strike up a conversation with the team here and see where it leads because it’s vitally important that we support projects like this. Room sponsorship is a great way of doing that and a brilliant opportunity to leave a legacy of support.”

Steven Hill, CEO of CWW Mind, said: “We were so grateful to Sandra and Corin for coming along to see how work is progressing at Berry Mews and we’re all excited to see the development finished and ready to support local people who need it most.”
