The initiative follows a free installation Custom Heat carried out in 2022 for four-year-old Jenson Smith, a Warwick boy with 93 per cent burns to his body after a tragic accident as a toddler. Jenson's condition meant that warm weather caused him significant distress, and after his family had spent two years unsuccessfully trying to secure funding for air conditioning, word of his situation reached Custom Heat's Managing Director, Lincoln Smith, through an NHS nurse who lived opposite him. Lincoln immediately committed to sourcing and fitting two Worcester Bosch air conditioning units in Jenson's home free of charge, transforming the family's summers.
Mr Smith said: "When we heard about Jenson's story there was no doubt in our minds that we could help, and seeing the difference it made to his life has stayed with all of us. We know there are other families out there in similar situations who are really struggling in the heat, and we want to find them. We're asking the charities and NHS teams who know these families best to come forward on their behalf."
To be considered, nominated families must live in Royal Leamington Spa or the surrounding areas, be living in a domestic property, and either own their home or have landlord permission for an installation to take place. Self-nominations will not be accepted. Nominating organisations are asked to get in touch at - Nomination for free air conditioning - by 31st July 2026 with a brief outline of why their nominee would benefit. The successful family will be contacted directly and the installation carried out at no cost.
Leamington firm calls on charities to find families struggling in the heat
A heating and cooling specialist is on the hunt for families in Royal Leamington Spa and the surrounding areas who have been suffering in the heat this summer - and is asking local charities and NHS teams to help find them.
Custom Heat, which has been serving homes and businesses across the Midlands for over four decades, is offering to source and install a domestic air conditioning unit completely free of charge - worth up to £4,500 - for the most deserving case put forward. Nominations are open to registered charities, hospices, hospitals and NHS community teams, with a deadline of 31st July 2026.
