Running from 11 May to 24 May, this year’s theme – “This is Fostering” – shines a light on the everyday experiences of fostering, celebrates the positive impact foster carers have on young lives, and acknowledges the pressures many carers face in today’s climate.
George Duggins, Leader of Coventry City Council, said:
“Foster carers are at the heart of our children’s services, and we are incredibly proud of the difference they make every single day. They open their homes and their lives to children who need them most, offering stability, compassion and hope, and transforming lives - not just for children, but for the families who care for them.
“I would encourage local people in the city to actively consider making that decision to foster with Coventry and provide that loving, caring home for Coventry children.”
Coventry City Council provides a comprehensive package of support to ensure foster carers feel valued and well-equipped, including a dedicated fostering team, extensive training and development opportunities, a generous financial allowance, and regular support groups.
The Council is also encouraging more residents from underrepresented communities to consider fostering. The city’s population is rich in diversity, culture and heritage, and children in care benefit enormously from carers who can reflect and understand their backgrounds.
Angela Whitrick, Strategic Lead for Corporate Parenting and Sufficiency at Coventry City Council added:
“Our carers continue to do remarkable work, but we need more people to come forward, particularly those who can support teenagers, sibling groups, and children from a range of cultural backgrounds.
“Although almost 75% of our children in care live in a foster home, we always need more carers. Foster Care Fortnight is a reminder that fostering is for people from all walks of life, that every carer matters, and that together we can make a lasting difference.”
Across Coventry, foster carers provide safe, stable, and nurturing homes for children who cannot live with their birth families. Their support helps children stay connected to their communities, maintain important relationships, and build brighter futures.
