Mr Adlington has now described how five of the team completed the journey last month for the charities Get-A-Head and Meningitis Now.
Mr Adlington said: “We did it! It was far tougher that we expected, but five out of six who started managed to finish.
“Unfortunately, one of our team ended up in hospital with multiple injuries, which just reflects how dangerous the event is.”
On day one, Mr Adlington himself accidentally rode over and fell onto his daughter, Lily, after she came off her bike when a tyre exploded.
He said: “This resulted in a huge bruise on her ribs and a red line across her legs, and she very angry!”
A collection of falls was then suffered by team member Mark Parker, including one which resulted in “blood pouring from his legs”.
But the worst came for team member Simon Pemberton who fell down a ravine in the Lake District on day seven.
Mr Adlington said: “This was the sight we didn’t want to see: ambulances, a crowd of people and breakages including 14 ribs, six vertebrae and a collarbone.
“Simon is currently making an incredible recovery after a couple of large operations.
“Finally, we arrived at John O’Groats, and a huge relief at a job well done. The team were all incredible, everyone pulling together to make it work.
“The roads, especially in Scotland, are quite rough, and it can feel like the bike is being shaken to pieces.
“But we had a great support crew and a bike mechanic who was a busy man! It was epic and something we will never forget.
“We are just short of £17,000 raised for the two charities with the individual donations and the corporate pledges to date.”
Mr Adlington was joined on the challenge by daughter Lily, a business development manager, and son Toby, who’s just retired from playing rugby in Australia.
Other team members were Mr Minshull, Mr Parker, also a farmer, and Mr Pemberton, a retired insurance executive. They were supported by three-man crew of mechanics from Bike Where You Like Ltd.
Mr Adlington added: “A huge thanks to Bromwich Hardy and our other sponsors for their unwavering support – it’s hugely appreciated.”
Tom Bromwich, managing partner of Bromwich Hardy, said: “Wow, just wow! What a journey, and what a story they now have to tell!
“Everyone at Bromwich Hardy was thrilled to have been involved in sponsoring this ride, and we’re so pleased at what was achieved.”
Other sponsors were Nick Davis Farming, EHB Residential, Howkins & Harrison Estate Agents, The Wigley Group, Adlington Ltd and Barwood Land.
