Coventry College students step in to help boost donations at charity ball

A team of volunteers from Coventry College are set to give their assistance to a charity ball in order to boost cash donations. The team of levels 1, 2 and 3 catering and hospitality students from the college’s Henley Campus will volunteer at the White Tie and Tiara Ball, held at the Ricoh Arena on Friday, September 21 in aid of the NSPCC.

They will take on front of house duties, greeting guests and assisting in the general running of the event, as well as encouraging donations at what is billed as ‘Coventry’s premier social occasion’.

Team leader Andrew Crompton, a lecturer on the hospitality and catering course at Coventry College’s Henley campus, said: “This event gives our students a great opportunity to get in some real experience at a busy social event, dealing with customers face to face and respecting the formal and confident way you need to conduct yourself.

“We are delighted to be helping at such a prestigious event and the fact we were asked by Jaguar Land Rover, the main sponsor of the night, to take on this job shows how highly we are thought of here when it comes to producing forward facing staff for restaurants and events.

“I have put together a team of some of our most confident and able students in order to drive donations as high as possible and I am sure they will do a great job.”

The event is being held in aid of the NSPCC by the Coventry & Warwickshire Business Board to raise funds to support the running of the Boole House, the NSPCC’s service centre in Coventry.

The Business Board is one of the most successful in the country, and in the last 21 years has raised in excess of £2.8 million to protect vulnerable children in the local area.

The Ball is expected to raise around £75,000, bringing the Business Board’s anticipated fundraising total for 2018 ever closer to the £3m mark.

Hamilton Bland, Chairman of Events, at Coventry & Warwickshire Business Board, said: “It is always a fantastic event and all the funds raised on the night go toward helping vulnerable children in Coventry and Warwickshire.

“This will be our 14th year, we have raised over £1 million from the ball alone since we started and we will continue to raise money for what is a vital provision in the region.

“We’d like to thank the volunteers from Coventry College for their support on the evening and we look forward to seeing them at the Ricoh Arena.”

This prestigious event, which is sponsored by Jaguar Land Rover and Adient, is expected to attract more than 600 guests, with tickets including live entertainment, a champagne reception and dinner.

For entertainment, Britain’s Got Talent star and Frank Sinatra tribute act, Wayne Woodward, will be entertaining crowds with his Ol’ Blue Eyes repertoire.
