Writing a Winning Awards Entry!
Top Tips to make sure you impress the judges!
- Look what you are good at, what you’ve achieved in the last 12 months and your key activities – then choose a category that fits you best.
- Start early! An entry takes time to write so make sure you allow yourself plenty of time so you are not rushed. To enter, you will need to provide a summary of why you think you should win the award (150 words) and then a more detailed entry, outlining your accomplishments (1000 words).
- Evidence – don’t make sweeping statements you can’t verify. Use figures, statistics and testimonials to back up your achievements and really impress the judges.
- Keep to the word count. It’s there for a reason, so make sure you don’t exceed it!
- If you are entering more than one award don’t use the same entry. While some information can be reused, each category has unique criteria that should be addressed.
- Plan your entries – source the information you need and identify who can help before you start.
- Try not to get side-tracked – keep checking the criteria to make sure your entry is relevant and you understand what the judges are looking for.
- Keep it simple – try avoiding jargon and unexplained acronyms. Remember, you are an expert in your business, the judges might not be.
- Check, check and check again. After completing your entry, take a break before reviewing it again with fresh eyes. For an even better perspective, consider having someone else review it as well.
- Make sure you can meet the deadline – don’t leave it until the last minute and let all your hard work go to waste! The deadline for entries is Friday 6th December 2024 at 12.00pm. Entries received after this time, or incomplete entries, will not be put forward for judging.
