During this final phase of the project, the footprint of the construction site will increase, requiring the removal of the temporary toilets, closure of the walkway next to the duck feeding area, and a small section of the older children’s playground, including the climbing frame. This will enable landscaping, levelling, and the creation of access paths to take place. Heras fencing will be erected until this work is completed.
Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Safer, Healthier and Active Communities, Councillor Jim Sinnott, commented:
“We are very pleased that these much-anticipated and long-awaited new facilities are nearing completion, and that the people of Kenilworth and the wider district will soon be getting additional year-round pool space. We know this will be welcomed by families, schools, and swimming clubs, as well as less confident swimmers and disabled users.”
Alex Fuoco-Lang, Everyone Active area contract manager, added:
“We’re thrilled that Abbey Fields Swimming Pool is progressing well and remains on schedule to open to the public in July. We’re thoroughly looking forward to showcasing the fantastic facilities that will be on offer for our local community and celebrating all the hard work that has gone into building the centre.”
Changes to pedestrian access in and around the Abbey Fields Swimming Pool site will be in place from Tuesday 7 April until the July opening. The junior playground and the remaining area of the older children’s playground will stay open throughout, but all toilets will be closed. Toilets and a café area are available for public use at Castle Farm Leisure Centre, which is approximately a fifteen-minute walk away, or at the Abbey End car park.
Once the pools are open, the Council will confirm arrangements for the outstanding work, including the tennis courts, duck feeding area, and play area.
