Experience the beauty of the ‘Blue Morpho’ Butterfly this Easter!

Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm is proud to support its sister conservation and breeding project, ‘Fallen Stones Butterfly Farm’ in Belize this Easter.

During the holidays from 28 March – 12 April, visitors can experience the breathtaking beauty of hundreds of Blue Morpho butterflies, which have been sourced directly from the project. Known for their iridescent, shimmering wings, the Blue Morpho is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful butterfly species in the world! The butterflies, which originate from the tropical forests of Latin America from Mexico to Colombia, are among the largest butterflies in the world, with wings spanning from 12 – 20cm!

Visitors can also discover the ‘Egg’ during the Easter holidays when they can see freshly laid eggs from tropical butterflies, the caterpillars that have hatched out of them and the pupae they turn into. Within the ‘Emerging Case’ visitors may even see a butterfly hatch from its pupa! The friendly and informative Education Team will also be hosting the popular Meet the Mini-Beast, Butterfly Life Cycle and Pupae demonstrations. Visitors can get close to some of the more unusual stick insects, such as the Sunny Stick Insect from the Philippines. These will take place daily in the Discovery Zone at 11:00am and 2.30pm.

Stratford Butterfly Farm is also inviting visitors to discover the fascinating world of Bees on Thursday 9 April from 10am – 3pm in the Discovery Zone. Matthew Ingram, a beekeeper from Holt Hall Apiary, along with his bees, will be teaching visitors all about these wonderful pollinators, how to interact with them, and the delicious honey they produce. Holt Hall Apiary is a small independent Bee Farm in Staffordshire with over 140 hives.

Jane Kendrick, Marketing Manager at Stratford Butterfly Farm said “This Easter come and marvel at the beauty of the Blue Morpho as they fill the Flight Area, creating a vibrant blue display. Visitors can also see the entire life cycle of a butterfly - the egg, the caterpillar, the chrysalis and finally the adult emerge which is absolutely fascinating to watch!’’

To see hundreds of spectacular butterflies, insects, reptiles, and spiders visit the Butterfly Farm from 10am to 6:00pm, last entry 5.30pm. Open every day of the week except Christmas Day.
