Birds of prey to flock to historic hidden gem this Easter

Families in Coventry have been invited to step into the world of medieval falconry this Easter as a historic city centre former hidden gem hosts a spectacular birds of prey experience.

Majestic falcons, owls and kestrels will flock to St Mary’s Guildhall where visitors can learn about the ancient art of falconry in its stunning Great Hall.

An expert falconer will introduce guests to incredible birds, sharing their history and skills, with the chance to hold one for a memorable photo opportunity.

Easter Falconry at St Mary’s Guildhall, which runs on Saturday, April 12, Monday 14, Tuesday 15, Wednesday 16, Friday 18, Monday 21, Tuesday 22, Wednesday 23, and Friday 25 at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, and 3pm, also include an additional 30 minutes to explore the historic venue.

The experiences, suitable for ages 7 and over, are part of St Mary’s Guildhall’s Easter celebrations, which also include a bird-themed Easter trail on non-falconry days, running from Saturday, April 13 to Sunday, April 27.

The interactive trail will explore the symbolism of birds showcased throughout the building and in Coventry’s history, including those found on the city's coat of arms.

Tickets for falconry days are £12 for children and £10 for adults, with free entry for carers. Spaces are limited, so advance booking is recommended.

Abi Moore, Heritage and Venue Manager at St Mary’s Guildhall, said: "Easter is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year for us, and we are delighted to bring this fantastic experience to families visiting Coventry city centre.

“Our falconry days will be a rare chance to see these birds up close in a historic setting, while the Easter trail looks at the depictions of birds in the past and their role in history.

“This is a unique opportunity right in the heart of the city, surrounded by so much to explore in the Guildhall and beyond, making it the perfect family day out."

Beyond the special Easter activities, visitors can explore interactive exhibits, the renowned Coventry Tapestry and enjoy lunch, brunch or afternoon tea at the Guildhall’s Tales of Tea restaurant.

The bird-themed Easter trail is available with standard entry to the venue, with discounts for GO CV and Go CV+ members, while falconry day tickets should be booked in advance.

St Mary’s Guildhall offers a range of family activities throughout the year thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund enhancing access to the venue and the renowned Coventry Tapestry with thanks to National Lottery players.
