The book, which has received a series of five-star reviews, features a foreword by Dick Stockton, the renowned American sports broadcaster. The company’s reach has also extended internationally, with recent coaching trips to North Carolina and Florida hosted alongside former US Ambassador Stuart Bernstein, as Proper Golfing continues to share its senior-friendly approach with golfers across the Atlantic.
At the heart of the brand’s success is the Timeless Golf Swing®, a method designed to help golfers play more naturally, with less strain and more enjoyment. The philosophy challenges traditional instruction that often encourages excessive tension or rigid positions, focusing instead on rhythm, coordination, and freedom of movement.
The partnership between Jo and Julian began in familiar local surroundings. The two met at Leamington & County Golf Club, where Jo first went to learn to play golf and Julian was the club professional. Their shared belief that golf should be easier, more enjoyable, and accessible to everyone eventually led to the creation of Proper Golfing.
“Golf should feel good, not forced,” explains Julian Mellor. “Our approach is built around feel, not theory. Many of our students are amazed at how quickly they improve once they stop fighting their own bodies.”
Co-founder Jo Cameron, who originally hails from Coventry, adds, “We’re proud that this success started here in Warwickshire. It’s proof that with purpose, creativity, and community support, a local business can have a global impact.”
Proper Golfing’s YouTube channel, now featuring over 500 educational videos, attracts golfers from more than 50 countries. The team continues to produce free weekly lessons, run events across Warwickshire, and use advanced tools such as AI-assisted swing analysis to help golfers measure their progress.
One client summed up the experience simply:
“I’ve played golf for 40 years, but after one Proper Golfing lesson I hit the ball better than I ever have. It’s transformed not just my game but my confidence too.”
