Jeremy Kitson joined Prime Accountants Group – then known as Pilley and Florsham – at the end of 2000, after studying business at Coventry University.
He has been on a growth journey ever since with Prime, which operated from a converted residential property in Coventry in the Pilley and Florsham days but now boasts three ultra-modern premises in Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry.
Jeremy is in good company for his milestone year, with fellow director Jamie Skelding celebrating 40 years with the firm and a combined 65 years of knowledge and experience between the pair.
“I completed a degree sandwich course, which included a year in the NHS as a placement. I decided working in the NHS wasn’t for me, and this role at Prime became my first job after university,” said Jeremy.
“When I started in 2000, the practice was a 25-person firm based in an old house in Coventry. We are now significantly larger and very different from those early days – so much has changed.
“The technology was certainly different back then. There was lots of handwritten work and paperwork, including 16-column pads and similar manual systems. I remember introducing spreadsheets in Excel to aid accuracy and efficiency, which was novel at the time.”
Jeremy started his professional studies in September 2001 and qualified as a chartered accountant in in 2003. He became a manager later that decade and then a senior manager in 2014.
“We were very busy and needed people to free up partner time and take on more responsibility. I applied for senior manager and I was successful – then things progressed quickly after that. I became a director in 2017 and a shareholder at the start of 2021,” added Jeremy.
Furthering his professional skills wherever possible, Jeremy also started studying for his Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) exams just before the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
He said: “I completed the first module in the classroom, but then the pandemic stopped that. At the same time, I was home-schooling the children and supporting my wife, Becky, who is a GP, which meant a lot of catching up on work in the evening and at the weekends!”
Based at Prime’s Birmingham office, Jeremy heads up the audit and accounts department and also leads the business’ charity department.
“I have always enjoyed working at Prime, alongside good people and good clients. The firm has been very supportive of me and has helped me get to where I am today,” he added.
Morgan Davies, managing director of Prime Accountants Group, said: “Jeremy and I have worked together at Prime for many years and he is a great asset to the firm.
“His journey is another great example of the career progression on offer at Prime and the benefits that brings to our clients and the rest of our team.”
