Their contribution funded a Boston Electric waterfall-back reclining patient armchair for Dorothea Ward, where Garry was cared for during his treatment for bowel cancer.
Tracey shared that her uncle was deeply grateful for the support he received, especially from Dr. Scott-Brown and Vickie Trory, who guided him throughout his treatment.
Not only did Tracey visit the ward, but Garry’s wider family also joined her in honouring his memory. Garry was brother to Maureen, brother-in-law to Betty, and cousin to Jimmy and Penny — all of whom came together to see the chair and celebrate the care he received.
“The whole family cannot praise the staff on Dorothea Ward enough,” said Tracey. “They were amazing right from his very first appointment, and the care and compassion continued throughout his time at George Eliot Hospital. We are so grateful for the opportunity to visit and see the chair, knowing this will be a lasting tribute to my wonderful Uncle.”
Maria Holmes-Keeling, Fundraising Coordinator for George Eliot Hospital Charity, added:
“It was lovely to meet the family and show them how their contribution has supported the purchase of this chair. Thank you for your kind gift, which will help support cancer patients for many years to come at George Eliot Hospital.”
