“The staff at the Dorothea Unit were simply incredible,” Joe shares. “They guided me through the physical and emotional challenges, hair loss, fatigue, nausea, and gave me the strength to keep going.”
Now in his first year of remission, Joe has returned to his role as a Sergeant in the British Army, a milestone he says would not have been possible without the dedication and care he received at the Dorothea Ward.
To give back, Joe is taking on a new challenge: in October 2025, he’ll compete in an ultramarathon in Peterborough, raising funds for the Dorothea Ward at George Eliot Hospital. Every donation will help improve the treatment, environment and patient experience for others facing cancer.
Joe added “this ultramarathon is about more than just finishing the race; it’s about giving something back to the team that helped save my life.”
George Eliot Hospital Charity are proud to support Joe as he raises both awareness and funds for cancer care at George Eliot Hospital.
