Thanks to the support of George Eliot Hospital Charity, we have been able to purchase high-quality, up-to-date training equipment that will allow our staff to simulate a range of perineal trauma scenarios. This equipment is key to the success of a newly launched specialised training programme focused on perineal repair.
“We are incredibly grateful to the charity for funding this essential equipment,” said Hayley Russell, Clinical Support Retention Midwife at George Eliot Hospital. “The new training kit will allow our teams to build confidence and competence in perineal suturing—ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.”
Each training session will support 10 staff members, offering vital hands-on practice that builds technical skills and clinical judgment. The goal is to ensure that all Midwives leave the programme equipped to deliver high-quality care that prioritises safety, dignity, and recovery for women after childbirth.
Kim Chapman, Midwife at George Eliot Hospital, who recently attended the training said: “The new equipment made a real difference—it felt realistic and allowed us to fully practice the techniques we need to use in real-life situations. I now feel much more confident in supporting women who experience perineal trauma.”
This investment is one more example of how George Eliot Hospital Charity is making a tangible difference in patient care, staff training, and healthcare innovation at a local level.
