The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is also committing to investing a minimum of £5 million annually in creative industries infrastructure until March 2028.
Destination Coventry is the destination management organisation for Coventry and delivers destination management, marketing and supports the tourism sector in the city.
Becky Rooney is a board member at Destination Coventry and the founder of Warwickshire-based production company Rooscreen.
Rooney is also the founder of FilmFriendly, a training and support organisation that helps potential filming location owners understand how to attract more film, television, and commercial productions.
She said: “This latest announcement from the BBC is fantastic news for the region.
“Coventry, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas offer a fantastic range of locations for filming, from historic period settings to contemporary backdrops, and the people and places here make it a great place to film.
“TV production brings a wealth of opportunities, including jobs for local crew, business for the locations and services that support filming and, of course, the many benefits of screen tourism when the programmes are released.”
Destination Coventry represents leisure tourism in Coventry through Visit Coventry and business tourism in Coventry and Warwickshire via Coventry & Warwickshire Convention Bureau.
Paul McMahon, Managing Director of Destination Coventry, added: “This increased commitment from the BBC could lead to a major long-term boost for tourism in the region.
“Increasingly we have seen in recent years that visitors from across the UK and overseas will travel to areas specifically because they provided the backdrop for their favourite TV programme or film.
“Film and TV inspire people to visit new places, experiencing the heritage and culture of a destination. It can be a catalyst for growth in the visitor economy, bringing long-term benefits for hotels, restaurants, attractions and local businesses across Coventry and Warwickshire.”
