Coventry College currently has 45 students undertaking the course and welcomes support from industry to help give a broader understanding of the skills required in the world of work.
Reward wanted to lend its help and was introduced to the college team by Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce as both are members of the leading business organisation.
Dan and Sam took along a whole host of products including PVC conduits, trunking and accessories, LED domestic and commercial lighting, emergency lighting, industrial controls, various cables for domestic and commercial use, consumer units and accessories, and LED ribbon lighting.
As well as donating some products themselves, Reward’s suppliers - ALL Led, Ansell Lighting, Scolmore and Univolt – also donated.
And, on top of the presentation of the products, Reward has also joined Coventry College’s skills of the future board to help give students a further insight into working life.
Dan said: “We wanted to support our local college, we’re just ten minutes down the road, and when we mentioned it to the Chamber they put us straight in touch.
“From there, it has snowballed and it led to this donation from ourselves and our own suppliers. Giving back in this way and by joining the skills of the future board is really important to us.
“It’s a chance to give back and support the next generation of electricians in our industry. The students we met could be our customers of the future and this might mean they remember us in a good light!
“We’re really proud to have done this and hopefully will be the start of a long-standing relationship. Our suppliers have already said they are happy to come in and talk to the students, as well as offering visits, and will help in any way they can too.”
Richard Joyce, Coventry College, Curriculum Manager in Construction and Building Services, said: “We are delighted to have started working in partnership with local supplier Reward Electrical Distributors.
“We’re so grateful for their generous donation of electrical goods for our Electrical Insulation cohorts here at Coventry College.
“As a college we are committed to providing cutting-edge education, hands-on experience, and sustainable practices, which will benefit from an integrated partnership with a professional electrical supplier.”
Gurprit Singh, Business Engagement Manager at Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Bringing organisations together is one of the things we do best here at the Chamber and I am so pleased that we could help to make this great initiative happen.
“It’s a win-win situation for everyone and, most importantly, means students will have some fresh equipment to work with to stretch their knowledge.”
