Council adult social care services nominated for tech awards

Coventry City Council is one of three West Midlands councils shortlisted for three national awards that recognise the impact of technology in helping people receive virtual care at home.

It’s part of the WM5G’s Adult Social Care (ASC) Partnership, which brings together Birmingham City Council, Coventry City Council, City of Wolverhampton Council, WM5G, Rethink Partners, Alcove, Care City and 4OC to deliver a preventative, data-driven model of digital Adult Social Care.

The West Midlands partnership project is shortlisted for the Innovation and Data Driven Impact Award at the International Technology Enablement Care (ITEC) Awards 2026.

Additionally, the Council is also shortlisted for the LGC Awards in the 'Public/Private Partnership' category and for the Municipal Journal award for Innovation in Children’s and Adult’s Services.

Cllr David Toulson, Deputy Cabinet Member for Adult Services, said: “Since November 2024, in Coventry we have witnessed an incredible transformation with 280 people in Coventry benefiting from 1,100 Technology Enabled Care devices. Also, 38 individuals are using Virtual Care to support them in remaining independent and living in their own homes.

“We continue to be committed to use technology enabled care to support people to live the lives they want, in the places they want and the ways that they want.

“Our success with the project is a testament to the hard work and innovation of occupational therapists, social workers and digital navigators in Coventry. This is a significant milestone, and it's a testament to the dedication and innovation of our team.”

The partnership delivers a preventative, data-driven model of digital Adult Social Care, covering various aspects such as occupational therapy, hospital discharge, reablement, commissioning, community, and family support.

Cllr Toulson further emphasised the importance of our work, he added: “Our focus is on supporting people at risk of falls, deterioration, isolation, or loss of independence; those returning home from hospital needing preventative support; adults with mental health needs; and younger, vulnerable adults seeking independent living who currently receive Adult Social Care Services.

“We face a rising demand in adult social care; people often experience unplanned hospital activity that could be prevented through earlier intervention. The WM5G partnership creates a unified, sustainable approach to technology enabled care (TEC) that meets previously unmet need for early identification of risk.

“We are proud to offer residents with adult care needs personalized digital assessments to identify the right mix of technology for their specific needs.”

This includes activity sensors, wearables, smart homeware, and video carephones, which support the self-management of health conditions, and enable early visibility of changes in routines, allowing for timely support.

The ITEC awards are set to take place on Monday, 16 March. The other awards are being held later this year.
