Coventry students dig into construction with experience days at Keresley development

Secondary school students from Coventry got hands-on with homebuilding thanks to a series of interactive site visits to a new homes development in Keresley.

Pupils from Finham Park 2 School, aged between 14 and 15, were welcomed to the 171-home development named The Croft to learn about careers in construction, with opportunities to learn first-hand from industry professionals.

Organised in partnership with Coventry City Council, Lioncourt Homes arranged the visits as part of its commitment to enrich communities beyond the construction of its high-quality homes.
Students had the opportunity to hear from site managers, technical teams, health and safety representatives and more, and gained a true insight into the wide range of elements that go into delivering on a build programme.
Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills at Coventry City Council, said: “It’s encouraging to see homebuilders like Lioncourt Homes opening their developments to help inspire the next generation of construction professionals.

“Initiatives like this can spark a passion for an industry and enlighten young people about the pathways to employment that are available to them.

“For Lioncourt Homes, operating in a key growth sector, harnessing young talent is a solid route towards sustainable business growth.”

Scott Whitehouse, Area Build Manager at Lioncourt Homes, said: “It was fantastic to welcome so many students to The Croft who expressed such enthusiasm for what goes on to produce our beautiful developments.

“Experiencing an active construction site for the first time is incredibly enriching, and we’re proud to have demonstrated the diversity of roles and responsibilities involved in delivering a project like ours."

Four classes from Finham Park 2 School’s year 10 cohort visited the site to gain a true insight into the variety of trades that go into production of new homes developments, from groundworkers to painter-decorators and everything in between.

Sophie McMahon, Assistant Headteacher and Careers Leader at Finham Park 2 School, said: “The visits to The Croft presented a great opportunity for our students to see construction professionals in action, while learning more about the many roles available in the sector.

“Students left feeling inspired and more informed about the various routes available into the world of work in this sector.

“We’re grateful to Lioncourt Homes and Coventry City Council for organising such a valuable experience for our pupils.”
The Croft is located just off Bennetts Road, close to the M6, making further afield locations such as Birmingham and Rugby easily accessible.
Lioncourt Homes currently has a variety of two, three, and four bedroom homes available at The Croft in detached, semi-detached and terraced styles, and will continue to provide social value for the area through its community engagement programme.
