How BEAS helped Sheldon’s Wine Cellars save on energy costs
Sheldon’s Wine Cellars, an SME based in Warwickshire, is an independent wine merchant founded in 1842. To combat rising energy costs, they reached out to the BEAS programme to explore energy-efficiency options and cost-reduction strategies.
After registering online, an energy adviser met with the business owner at Sheldon’s Wine Cellars to learn more about how the business operates and the challenges it faces.
The BEAS on-site assessment found that the premises couldn’t maintain the required wine temperature and that the display area experienced significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The loft above the customer display area had no insulation, and the display area had a single-glazed bay window and solid walls with no insulation. All these problems combined to raise the business's energy costs.
After implementing energy-saving recommendations, Sheldon’s Wine Cellars can potentially save over £2,500 per year in energy costs. These improvements would not only reduce the business's carbon footprint but also improve the comfort of the premises for both employees and customers.
