Total Home Security Limited
Richard Buckley has been supported by Hardeep Sandhu from Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce to start a new business venture called Total Home Security Limited. Upon completion of Richard’s 22 years of service in the Royal Air Force, he reached a major crossroads decision of whether to continue within the Air Force and remain within the intelligence world or go for a total change of direction. After much deliberation, Richard made the tough decision of starting his own business and decided to become a locksmith as he had so much previous exposure to lock picking.
Richard took advantage of carrying out various training and acquiring the relevant qualifications as part of the military resettlement package. Richard went on to attend start up workshops organised by the Chamber and support was funded on behalf of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Richard found the workshops to be extremely valuable and an excellent networking tool to speak to like-minded individuals going through the same process. Richard had so many transferable skills to start his own business, including excellent at managing projects and was responsible for managing over 50 members of staff, excellent time keeping skills, extremely professional and great interpersonal skills and very patient and calm demeanor.
Richard commented: “I have been very fortunate to be allowed the mentoring from the Chamber, the initial Business start-up and finance workshops are essential for focusing the mind and a major part of the decision making process to go self-employed. The subsequent one to one sessions have continued to provide advice and direction as well as a great sounding board to ensure that I’m not heading off in the wrong direction. My sincere thanks to the team and best wishes for the future.”

Richard is starting to build local and national links and often gets regular referrals. Richard deals with a range of different clients and his work ranges from dealing with Emergency callouts including gaining entry for the emergency services to get a 90 year old lady who had fallen and spent the night on the floor, as well as assisting bailiffs to gain access on behalf of Landlords, and people that have a lock that has simply broken as well as individuals that may have lost their keys.
Richard is so glad that he has taken the plunge to start his own business and now has an excellent work life balance, and with young children this is certainly enabled him too not miss out on precious family time. Richard is so dedicated and determined to succeed and the business is going from strength to strength.
