Cutting a New Path: Local Entrepreneur Launches Mower Repair Business

Jack Oldham, a young entrepreneur from Newton near Rugby, has successfully launched Rural Mower Repairs Limited, transforming a disused family workshop into a thriving mower repair business, thanks to support from the Warwickshire Start-Up Programme, delivered by the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.

Before & After

Jack’s entrepreneurial journey didn’t begin in an office, it started in a back garden.

“I started out fixing a mower that broke down while I was doing my uncle’s lawn. That sense of accomplishment just stuck with me”, Jack explains.

Coming from a hands-on, agricultural family; his father an engineer, his great-uncle a mechanic, Jack began repairing mowers for friends and neighbours while still at school. By the age of 16, he was working weekends at a local mower shop, which soon turned into a full-time role.

With a strong work ethic and clear vision, Jack began rebuilding his grandfather’s abandoned workshop. What began as a side project quickly gained traction through word of mouth, with Jack juggling increasing repair jobs alongside part-time work.

From Back Garden Repairs to a Registered Business

In June 2024, Jack enrolled in Warwickshire Start-Up Programme to gain the business knowledge needed to grow his operation professionally. Over the course of nine months, he received over 12 hours of tailored support, including regular one-to-one mentoring with business advisor Wendy Brown.

“I came across the Chamber’s programme while looking for advice on legal requirements and day-to-day operations,” Jack says. “The mentoring sessions helped shape my business plan, provided me with essential tools and templates, and gave me space to develop ideas with expert guidance. Wendy was incredibly supportive; her experience was invaluable.”

With support from the programme, Jack registered his business, brought on an accountant, and increased his client base with new confidence.

“I’m now taking on more work, better equipped and more confident than ever.”

Building a Business for the Future

Wendy Brown, who advised Jack throughout the programme, praises his determination and focus:

“Jack’s story is truly inspiring. He’s turned a derelict workshop into a space that really graces the village. He’s thoughtful, detailed, and committed, qualities that shine through in the way he serves his clients.”

Beyond repairs, Jack has bold plans to grow. He’s working towards opening a dedicated showroom and diving into new technologies and robotics to meet future demand.
