Peter Jarvis, Chairman of the Zoë’s Place Business Group in Coventry, and National Patron of the charity, said: “It is with great regret that in view of the current Covid-19 pandemic we have taken the decision to cancel the Zoë’s Place Fire & Ice Ball.
“We are hugely disappointed however the government guidelines issued that all mass gatherings are to be avoided and subsequently the closure of all restaurants, pubs and cafes have left us with no alternative and it is clear that this is our only realistic option at this stage.”
Now in its fifth year the ball is a highlight on the Zoë’s Place social calendar. The previous four balls organised by the Business Group raised a collective £245,000.
Peter said with reduced funds coming in as a result of the pandemic it was now more important than ever for the Coventry and Warwickshire community to continue their support for Zoë’s Place.
He continued: “As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic there are a number of fundraising events which understandably have had to be cancelled, not just official events like the ball but smaller ones independently organised by our supporters out in the community.
“But there are always ways in which people can continue to help.
“One of the easiest ways, which really makes a difference to our charity, is through regular donations. Giving just £5, £15 or £30 a month may not make much of a difference to an individual but to the children of Zoë’s Place it makes a huge difference.
“Not only does it give us the income our children and their families so desperately need, but it means that we know in advance the very least amount of money we can expect to raise month by month.
“This allows us to lay out our plans for the charity in terms of services and facilities and it means anything else we receive on top – in terms of legacies or extra donations – comes as a welcome bonus.”
Those who have booked tables at the ball will be contacted in the near future.
