Mayor to speak at Chamber’s ‘Sustainable Business Summit’

Mayor Andy Street is set to speak at the Sustainable Business Summit, an event hosted by Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce (CWCC) in partnership with Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce (GBCC) as part of their Sustainable Business Series taking place across the next month.

The Sustainable Business Series: Net Zero is the Chamber’s first campaign on environmental sustainability and will explore the region’s net zero aims ahead of the COP26 conference in November.

Mayor to speak at Chamber’s ‘Sustainable Business Summit’

In April, the Government legislated a target of a 78 per cent reduction in CO2 eq. emissions by 2035 from 1990 levels (a reduction of approximately 60 per cent from today’s levels), to accelerate progress to the 2050 net zero target.

As businesses and industries will have to adapt to meet this target, the Sustainable Business Summit will help to highlight businesses’ role in reaching the aims, as well as the opportunities and challenges that will come from the transition.

The Sustainable Business Summit will take place on the morning of 3 November from 8:35am.

Attendees will discover how businesses of different sizes and sectors have embraced their role in decarbonising through expert discussions, gain perspectives from regional and national business leaders on why net zero is important and understand the financial case for sustainability, as well as the finance available to assist businesses in that transition.

Confirmed speakers at the event include:

  • Andy Street, Mayor of West Midlands
  • Professor Hisham Farag, Professor of Finance, Head of Department of Finance, University of Birmingham
  • Emma Head, Technical Services Delivery Director, HS2
  • Juliet Mian, Director of Infrastructure Resilience, Arup
  • Tim Miller, Director of Engagement Energy & Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI), Aston University
  • Richard Kirkham, Operations Director, Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure
  • Jo Gilroy, Head of Sustainability and Environment, Kier Group

Places on the summit are limited, however all webinars are free to attend.
