The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, which launched a Brexit Club to help local firms deal with the effects of leaving the EU straight after the referendum, says most companies will be relieved that a so-called No Deal Brexit has been avoided.
But chief executive Louise Bennett has urged politicians to come together to ensure the UK is not in the same boat in six months’ time.
She said: “The Chamber has been clear from day one that it’s vital to avoid a disorderly Brexit.
“However, companies are crying out for some certainty to help them plan for the future and execute investments that are crucial to them growing their businesses.
“Therefore, it is our view that the next six months – if that’s how long it takes – must see politicians come together, compromise and find a way forward and delivers a clear way forward.
“Firms have been faced with uncertainty for well over three years now and they need a clear roadmap for the future very soon so they can plan for the final outcome.
“The next six months cannot be wasted to the point where we end up in the same boat in October. It is time to find a consensus for a way forward and to deliver it.”
