Founded in 1969, the IWSC is considered to be the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world.
The awards given by the competition are believed to be among some of the highest honours in the industry. Judging for
the Competition is unique in that it has two stages; first, the products are tasted blind by expert panels, selected from
over 300 fully experienced and qualified industry judges. Products which receive the top medals are then subject
to technical analysis before results are released; this crucial stage ensures winners receive complete validation.
Stratford Gin was only launched in December 2015 and is produced in Stratford upon Avon on the beautiful 4000-acre
Alscot estate. Stratford Gin is made in small handcrafted batches and takes its inspiration from the Tudor period in
which Shakespeare was born. The ten botanicals used in the gin would have been in common use during this time,
many of which would have been grown in Tudor knot gardens, creating a beautiful fresh tasting gin that is Juniper led
with delicious herbal notes and a hint of citrus.
Commenting on the win, Director and Master Distiller Simon Picken said, “I am absolutely delighted that Stratford Gin
has once again been recognised by such a prestigious competition in our second year. Gaining a Silver Outstanding
award from the IWSC means we have gone one better than our Silver award last year and this gives our customers
absolute confidence in Stratford Gin, knowing it has passed a rigorous industry test of quality and taste. Stratford Gin is
available in many local wine and spirits outlets, bars, restaurants and hotels, with a fast growing range of stockists. We
hope this win will help secure further new customers and partners in the months to come.”
Also commenting on the win, Director Peter Monks added, “Our aim was always to produce a high-quality locally-made
handcrafted gin, one which would make the people of Stratford feel proud to have it bear the name and represent the
town across the UK. We are excited that this award validates what a brilliant local spirit Stratford Gin is.”
