Welcome to Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce

Firstly let me wish you a happy and prosperous New Year.

As a Chamber, it is our resolution this year to do even more than ever to help each and every member to increase trade and do more business.

An example of this is the new fuel card we have now launched which will save our members 3p per litre on diesel and 2p on petrol. In fact, the issue around fuel is a very good way to highlight the work of the Chamber on behalf of business. We lobbied hard on a local and national level to get the duty rise deferred and I was pleased to see that happen in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement.

With so much doom and gloom dominating our national headlines, I was pleased that the Chancellor, in his Autumn Statement, said we were not heading for a recession. Of course, he is going to take the most positive line but in the current climate, confidence is absolutely vital.

He also mentioned more support for international trade and that’s something I welcome because we do need to see more firms exporting and trading overseas. I very much want to see greater levels of support for UKTI which does a wonderful job – through the Chamber here in Coventry and Warwickshire – in getting both inexperienced and experienced overseas traders doing more business abroad.

Once again, I wish you a very happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you at one of many events.
